CRC favoured to retain Deepam Trophy

COLOMBO Rowing Club will be represented by 13 oarsmen and 6 oarswomen at the 68th edition of the Madras-Colombo Regatta to be held on Saturday July 9 starting at 2.30 p.m. on the Beira Water, Colombo Rowing Club.

The Colombo Rowing Club the holders of the Deepam Challenge Trophy for the year 2003 and 2004 is strongly favoured to retain the title for the third successive year over arch rivals Madras Boat Club.

The Colombo oarsmen and oarswomen did well last year beating Madras in the 67th edition of the Madras-Colombo Regatta held on June 28 and 29 on the Adyar River, Chennai, Colombo had 22 points to Madras 20 points on the overall.

The rowers from Madras and Colombo will compete in ten events. The men will participate in the 'A' and 'B' Sculls, 'A' and 'B' pairs, 'A' and 'B' fours and veterans fours. Meanwhile the women will row in sculls, pairs and fours.
