Cooray resigns

CHIEF Minister of the Western Provincial Council Reginald Cooray yesterday tendered his resignation from office.

His resignation was communicated to Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana yesterday evening.

In his brief letter to the Governor Cooray said his decision to step down had the concurrence of the President and was prompted by a yearning to better serve his party, the Provincial Council and the nation in the context of the present political climate in the country.

Cooray in his letter has expressed his profound appreciation and gratitude to Governor Mowlana for his unstinted support, co-operation and leadership extended during his tenure as CM, in the service to his people.
