Paris citizens to build 100 houses for tsunami victims
BY Matara central correspondent
THE citizens of Paris will provide funds for the construction of 100
houses for those rendered homeless in Sri Lanka due to tsunami disaster
in Sri Lanka.
Fifty of these houses will be built at a location at Wewahamanduwa
provided by the State, said the Viharadhipati of the International
Buddhist centre in France - Ven. Parawahara Chandraratana Nayake Thera
when he made a statement to the Daily News in that connection.
The Venerable thera visited Sri Lanka twice during the past five
months in connection with the distribution of aid for displaced citizens
temporarily housed in temples in the district of Matara.
He further said that a well-to-do Sri Lankan businessman living in
Paris has collected funds from French citizens for the purpose. With the
funds collected the thera had purchased items required for daily
consumption such as rice and dhal from India sufficient for a shipment
sent to Sri Lanka.
These items have already been distributed among the distressed.
He commended the bhikkhus for the yeoman service rendered by them
during the hour of great calamity.
The venerable thera has also to provide water-tanks to store water
for the use of tsunami victims. |
