Probe into Bogambara grenade issue

CENTRAL Range West DIG Nimal Mediwaka has deployed a special police team from Kandy to investigate into the grenade incident at the Bogambara remand prison on Saturday.

Kurunegala Police arrested a suspect allegedly involved in a number of robberies in the Central Province, investigators said.

The suspect later produced before Kurunegala Magistrate was remanded till the completion of investigations. Prison authorities had taken the suspect to the Bogambara Remand prison on a court order.

While the suspect was being searched at the Bogambara remand prison, he had thrown the grenade which he was hiding on his person which exploded. Investigators are trying to ascertain whether the suspect had brought the grenade to kill any prisoners.
