Touch rugby at CR on June 17 and 18

THE Lion Breweries along with the Ceylonese Rugby and Football Club (CR and FC) have teamed up yet again to come up with a unique event of "Touch Rugby" on the night on the 17th and 18th of June, 2005 commencing at 7 p.m.

After the phenomenal success of the Carlsberg Long Bar project in Nuwara Eliya, the Lion Brewery has decided to give Colombo a taste of what made this April season really happen. For those of you who were not part of the seasonal buzz, the Long Bar is probably the longest bar in Sri Lanka.

The Long Bar will kick off in Colombo at the CR and FC grounds, Longdon Place on June 16th, 17th and 18th. Along with the usual beers, mixes and food an exiting line up of entertainment has been planned for these three days.

There will also be several open seven-a-side rugby matches held under lights on both day one and two. Anyone can join in the fun as long as they are not professional or club rugby players. An interesting aspect of these matches will be that the teams of seven must include at least one female player. Basic Rules are:

1. Tournament Entry fee for each team is Rs. 1,500.

2. All games are played in the night from 7pm to 12 midnight.

3. Seven people to a team, with a total of 10 including reserves.

4. Of the seven people, one person should be over 35, two people should be over 30 and one person should be from the other gender. The balance three people are left to your discretion. If you are planning on fielding an all women's side, the person from the other gender could be any age group and there are no restrictions to the ages of the ladies.

5. You will be given three chances to move the ball (3 touches) and in the event you are tapped three times, the ball will be handed over to the other side.

6. General Rugby rules will be adhered.

7. Each team will definitely play on both nights (17th and 18th).

Day one will have a retro theme with top Dj's Harpo and Wendell spinning the best of the 60's, 70's and 80's. Day two will feature a hot round up of live entertainment with xxxx and xxxxx. After all that action, chill out on day 3 with a cool afternoon of jazz featuring all the jazz greats and a special appearance by sultry song bird Natasha.

So, it's going to be an action packed three days fun at the CR and FC. The Carlsberg Long Bar experience will definitely add more than a little excitement to Colombo's entertainment scene.
