Conducting death fasts, no solution to national problem - Sihala
Urumaya
THE Sihala Urumaya said yesterday that a solution could not be found
to the national problem by conducting death fasts at places of worship
and on the highway and forcing business places to put up shutters as
done by the JHU recently.
The Sihala Urumaya in a press release said now that the Government
had decided to table the Tsunami Relief Council proposal in Parliament
all parties represented in Parliament would get an opportunity to
express their stand on the issue.
The Sihala Urumaya believes that the country's sovereignty could be
safeguarded if the proposal could be adopted with amendments to its
controversial clauses.
The release signed by party leader Sarath Manamendra points out that
even Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera who staged a death fast recently had
told the electronic media that he had no objections to the Tsunami
Relief Council proposal if its controversial clauses were amended.
The Sihala Urumaya which subscribed to the same view wished to thank
Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera for understanding the gravity of the
national problem and making such a statement even belatedly. |
