Soldier killed in accident

A 24-year-old soldier was killed when the push bicycle he was wheeling was knocked down by a bus in Vavuniya.

This was revealed at the inquest on the death of Gamlakshithage Upul Seneviratne of Kalavila Pasel Kanda, Beruwela. He died on Monday at the Colombo National Hospital.

The suspect bus driver Thangaraja Yodharasa, 27, has been remanded.

Soldier Jayasiri Mudiyanselage Amith, 20, in evidence before City Coroner Edward Ahangama said, Seneviratne came at 6.30 am to take away the register.

He was knocked down while leaving with the register to the Vavuniya camp.

Ahangama put off the inquest for July 10 Dr. D.I.G. Kithulawatte held the post-mortem. Vavuniya Police led evidence.
