Six shuttlers for Beijing

Sri Lanka will field a six member team at the 9th Sudhirman Cup Badminton Championship which is scheduled to be held from May 10th to 15th in Bejing, China.

The Sri Lankan team includes six experienced players and are drawn in group six with Armenia, Mongolia and Jamaica. A total of 42 teams are expected to take part in this tournament. Two National champions Niluka Karunaratne and Thilini Jayasinghe who are currently undergoing IBF training in Germany are expected to return back in time for this tournament.

The other members in the Sri Lanka team are Thushara Edirisinghe, Duminda Jayakody, Chandrika de Silva and Rasangi Kalpana. Niluka and Thilini are expected to compete in the singles events while Duminda and Thushara will compete in the men's doubles.

Chandrika and Rasangi will compete in the women's doubles and Chandrika and Thushara will compete in the mixed doubles in their group. Niroshan Wijekoon, a former National player will accompany the team as Manager.

Sri Lanka are confident that they could finish on top of their group in an attempt to receive a promotion said SLBA President Sumith Guruge (C.D.)
