An independent committee will be appointed with immediate effect on the directive of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to look into 11 allegations levelled against the Western Province Chief Minister Reginald Cooray by the UNF from its No confidence motion.

World Bank commends Lanka's tsunami relief mechanism


World Bank Chief James Wolfensohn has commended the Sri Lankan tsunami aid distribution mechanism and the use of State banks' network to disperse tsunami grants as an example to others, at the 2005 WB/IMF's spring meeting which concluded in Washington recently.

ADB to loan USD 19 m for private sector


The Asian Development Bank will provide USD 19 million to develop private sector enterprises. This pledge was made by Finance and Training Division representative ADB, Babara Ericcson, at the international conference on ?Achieving results in private sector development?, concluded in Manila last week.
