Windies hope to be simply the best in final test

ST. JOHN'S, Tuesday (AFP) The West Indies made two changes to their squad for the fourth and final Test to be played here with South Africa on Monday following their humbling by South Africa in the third Test.

Narsingh Deonarine and Tino Best came in for Ryan Hinds and Reon King for the match which begins on April 29, after the hosts slid abjectly to an innings and 86 runs defeat which gave the tourists an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Convenor of the selectors Michael "Joey" Carew said the selectors were disappointed in the performance of the team, particularly the batsmen, who, except Brian Lara, once again did not live up to expectations on a good batting wicket.

"Nevertheless we have another Test Match to play and we hope to salvage something from this series as we look forward to the visit of the Pakistanis as well as the difficult tours to Sri Lanka and Australia later this year," said Carew. "Some people are advocating sweeping changes but that policy has never proven to be successful.

"What we are looking to do is to improve the fitness and conditioning, both mental and physical, of the players to ensure that they are able to contend with the demands of the modern game," he added.

Squad: Shivnarine Chanderpaul (Capt), Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Brian Lara, Narsingh Deonarine, Dwayne Bravo, Courtney Browne, Daren Powell, Dwight Washington, Fidel Edwards, Tino Best
