by Sanjaya Asela Mathurata
The United People's Freedom Alliance does not have within its fold
people who sell roofing sheets and Samurdhi rice meant for poor people
but only those who utilize every cent of public funds for the benefit of
the masses, states Yatinuwara SLFP Chief Organizer Tikiri Kobbekaduwa,
the Presidential Media Advisor.
He made this observation in the course of his address at the mass
meeting held to commission the Kahawatugoda Water Supply scheme,
Muruthalawa, presided over by Ven. Mangalagama Lankananda Thera, the
Viharadhipathi of Kettharamaya, Kahawathugoda. The water supply scheme
was financed under the decentralized budgetary allocation of Central
Provincial Council Member A.G.Sirisena.
He further said that the funds for this water scheme was allocated
during the previous PA regime, but the UNF Government which succeeded
delayed its implementation during the 2 1/2 years of their rule.
Development of highways under the "Maga Neguma" programme of Prime
Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, Government Appointments to 43,000 unemployed
graduates and efficient handling of post tsunami rehabilitation
programmes are some of the major achievements of the UPFA Government
during the first year of their rule, he explained.
Central Provincial Council Member A.G.Sirisena addressing the
gathering said that Kahawathugoda is an area where the two communities
of Sinhalese and Muslim co-existed in harmony from a time immemorial and
that the Muslim cooperation in the successful completion of this water
supply scheme was exemplary.
The meeting was addressed by a number of speakers including retired
Principal M. Anvardeen, Dr. K.A. Somaratne, Mahindalal Premaratne, A.G.
