Wadduwa special correspondent
"Today the people have been vested with vast responsibilities to
protect the temples and the people should be closely associated with the
Sangha and follow their guidance to set up a decent society. The high
ideals of the teaching of Lord Buddha should be inculcated in the
younger generation."
This was stated by Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddharta Sumangala Maha
Nayaka Thera of Malwatta Chapter participating in a ceremony of
unveiling the pinnacle of a 'Chaitaya' at Diparama Duwe Ancient Temple
at Kalutara.
Delivering an Anusasana the Most Ven. Maha Nayake Thera said that the
Diparama temples belongs to the Malwatta Chapter and there should be a
Viharaya, a Bodhi and a Chaitaya for a temple. It is a meritorious deed
to complete a Chaitaya for the temple.
The construction work of the 'Chaitaya' commenced about forty years
ago, by the Ven. Bentota Saddhatissa Thera, who was the chief incumbent
of the temple. He stressed that we should not only worship temples,
chaitayas, and statues of Lord Buddha, but we should also protect and
preserve them. They should be regularly renovated.

Ven. Kalutara Pragnasiri Thera, the Chief Incumbent of Diparama temple,
