Vocational Training Ministry official shot dead

A senior official attached to the Vocational Training Ministry of Minister Douglas Devananda was gunned down in broad daylight around 12.30 p.m. yesterday by assailants believed to be from the LTTE pistol group, military and Police sources said yesterday.

T. Kailanandan, Director of Vocational Training Ministry was shot dead by the unidentified gunmen when he was at the Kattankudy Technical College in Batticaloa to attend to an official duty, military sources said.

According to sources Kailanandan was at the Kattankudy Technical College since yesterday morning to conduct several interviews to recruit some trainees to the College.

Kailanandan, a resident of Charles Place, Dehiwala and a father of two died on the spot.

Kattankudy Police is conducting further investigations.
