Re-construction project at Vidyaloka College, Galle

VIDYALOKA College, Galle was one of the many schools, which was badly affected by the tsunami. This is a national school, which has more than 2,200 students having classes from Year One to Advanced Level.

Hirdaramani Group of Companies has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Education to reconstruct, repair and rehabilitate Vidyaloka College. UK's Harrow School has come forward to financially support this project in a big way. They will also have a 'long-term partnership' with Vidyaloka College.

According to the above MoU, a new three storey class room block, canteen, gymnasium, pavilion and toilet blocks will be constructed in addition to the repairs in all other buildings.

This school will be provided with new computers and furniture, science laboratory equipment, assembly hall furniture, western and eastern band equipment etc. The total project cost will be approximately Rupees 47 million.

The Head Master of Harrow School, UK, B. J. Lenon will visit the Vidyaloka College in Galle. He will be laying the foundation stone for the gymnasium. He is also scheduled to meet Dr. Tara de Mel, Secretary, Ministry of Education in connection with the above project.
