Doctor falls to his death inside lift

A doctor at the Warakapola District Hospital fell to his death while trying to rescue a patient and a hospital attendant stuck inside the stalled lift during last evenings 30 minute islandwide power failure.

The victim has been identified as a Dr. W.D. Kuruppu who had served 10 years at the Warakapola District Hospital.

According to reports, the lift had ground to a halt during last evening's power failure trapping the patient and the attendant within it. The doctor at this stage had joined other workers at the hospital in trying to rescue the marooned duo.

The lift had suddenly plunged down about 20 feet.

The doctor was found dead with severe head injuries inside the lift.
