H.M. Gunaratne Banda at the helm of WLF
H.M. Gunaratne Banda was elected President of the Sri Lanka Weight
Lifting Federation (WLF) at the Annual General Meeting held at the
Auditorium recently. He was elected uncontested as the other two
candidates who were vying for the post of President withdrew.
Gunaratne Banda who represents Torrington WLC was the National Weight
Lifting Champion for 13 consecutive years and also represented Kandy SC
and upcountry rugby and athletics.
He has established many national records in Put and Throwing events
and is a former Vice President of the National Olympic Council and an
ex-president of the Weight Lifting Federation of Sri Lanka.
In addition to his sporting credentials he is well-known in the
sports arena as an administrator who has contributed immensely for the
uplift of sports such as Weight Lifting, Physical Culture and Athletics
in Sri Lanka.
R.B. Wickramasinghe who is a former Sri Lankan National Coach and
former National Champion of Weight Lifting was also elected uncontested
as Secretary of the Weight Lifting Federation - a post he held many
years ago. |
