World leaders hail Pope as force for peace


WORLD leaders mourned Pope John Paul, many hailing him as a force for peace across the globe while others credited him with a major role in the fall of the Iron Curtain. From Brazil to the Philippines, South Africa to Germany, Roman Catholics prayed, wept and hugged each other in grief when news flashed across the globe on Saturday of the death of the Pope, whose 26-year reign was the third-longest pontificate.

India's leaders join Catholics in mourning


INDIA'S president and prime minister joined Catholics across the country Sunday in expressing sorrow over the death of Pope John Paul II. President Abdul Kalam said he was "deeply saddened at the passing away of Pope John Paul II," the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency reported.
