Compensation for postal workers' families

A religious ceremony was held at the Central Post Office in Colombo on March 28 in remembrance of employees who died in the tsunami disaster.

The Viharadhipathi of Colombo Sambuddhaloka Viharaya Ven. Iththademaliye Indasara Thera, Rev. Father Rohana Alvis of St. Andrew's Church and other religious dignitaries participated at this ceremony.

Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Udarata Development D. M. Jayaratne announced that the Ministry will grant Rs. 100,000 for the wife and give permanent appointments in the Ministry for the two children of G. A. Silva who died in the tsunami while attending to his duties.

The Ministry has also established a committee to submit a report on other postal workers who died in the disaster.
