Retired IGP Indra de Silva
recommended for appointment to Commission
Retired IGP Indra de Silva has been recommended to the President by
the Constitutional Council as a member for the appointment of the
Bribery Commission.
This follows President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga rejecting
the nomination of retired IGP T. E. Anandaraja who was earlier nominated
by the Constitutional Council.
A statement issued by the Constitutional Council yesterday states:
"The Constitutional Council recommended the names of Ameer Ismail
(Chairman), P. Edussuriya and T. E. Anandarajah to the President for
appointment to the Commission to investigate Allegations of Bribery of
Corruption on January 17, 2005.
However, in view of certain objections with regard to the nomination
of T. E. Anandarajah raised by the President by letter dated 09.03.2005
addressed to the chairman of the Constitutional Council and the
suggestion that the Constitutional Council should reconsider his
nomination, the Council at its meeting decided to recommend the name of
T. I. de Silva (retired IGP) instead of T. E. Anandarajah." |
