Security forces unable to take responsibility
THE Operational Headquarters says the Government or the Security Forces
cannot take up the responsibility on the security of the LTTE leaders
arriving in the government controlled areas without any prior notice.
They added that the LTTE Peace Secretariat Chief
Pulidewan had arrived Thandikulam check point in Vavuniya at around
10.00 p.m. on Wednesday to proceed to Kilinochchi. Thandikulam and the
Omanthai check points were closed at that time. But the Security Forces
had to open it with special permission.
Military Spokesman Brigadier Daya Ratnayake says that
the LTTE representatives including Pulidewan had left for Kilinochchi
via the Omanthei check point after a delay of one hour.
Brigadier Ratnayake said around 9.50 p.m. Chief of the
LTTE Peace Secretariat Pulidewan and two other members came to
Vavuniya-Thandikulam Army road block and they wanted to proceed to
Kilinochchi.
"Though we closed down the Omanthei military check point
around 6.00 p.m., we escorted them to the Omanthei road block and let
them proceed to Kilinochchi."
He said: "That was not a main issue. The main issue was
that those LTTE members or the LTTE leaders are travelling without any
early warning at night and day in government controlled areas. We have
repeatedly warned them not to do so since there is a serious security
threat to them from their own carders and the break away LTTE group, the
Karuna faction.
In spite of those warnings, they move like this
purposely to blame the security forces is something was wrong. Therefore
once again we request the LTTE to behave in a responsible manner
specially when their leaders are moving in government controlled areas." |
