Bribery Commission defunct:

Narco-mafia ex-IGP's nomination out


ONCE again the Bribery Commission is not functioning. This is due to the fact that the Chairman of the Commission, retired Supreme Court Judge Ananda Coomaraswamy, has retired making the Institution inoperative. The nominee of the Constitution Council, a former IGP who retired under a criminal cloud has been rejected by the President as he is found to have had connections with the narcotics mafia, some of whom are facing cases against them.

Interim Authority within context of permanent settlement - Government


THE Government said yesterday during efforts to evolve an agenda for peace talks it has agreed to the concept of setting up an Interim Authority within the context of negotiating a permanent settlement to the ethnic conflict. This is on the basis that an interim authority will be useful in a transitional period from a situation of conflict to one of democracy.
