JVP Relief Service Corp come under grenade attack in Trinco
THE Relief Service Corp of the JVP came under a hand
grenade attack yesterday when they were in the process of launching a
temporary housing project for Sinhala civilians displaced in Trincomalee
by the December 26 tsunami disaster.
An unidentified group of persons arrived at the scene of
the incident yesterday morning had allegedly set fire to a van belonging
into the Relief Service Crop of the JVP.
UPFA Parliamentarian Jayantha Wijesekera issuing a
statement said that an angry crowd engaged in a protest demonstration
had set fire to the tyres at the scene of the incident as they were
provoked by the LTTE.
The members of the JVP Relief Service Corp have taken
measures to remove items and machinery which were unloaded at the places
where the temporary houses were to be built on a request by the Armed
forces and the Police due to the tempt situation.
MP Wijesekera pointed out that communal groups link to
the LTTE had obstructed them when they were in the process of launching
a housing project at the sixth mile post in Trincomalee to displaced
Tamils.
However he added that the construction of temporary
houses to the displaced Muslims in Trincomalee continue without
hindrance. |
