Town planners to discuss post-tsunami reconstruction issues
THE inaugural seminar of the workshop on "Aftermath of tsunami - A
window of opportunity for planned development" organised by the
Institute of Town Planners Sri Lanka will be held at the World Trade
Centre today and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse will be Chief Guest.
The Urban Development and Water Supply Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena and Colombo Mayor Prasanna Gunawardena will be the Guests of
Honour at the inaugural sessions.
This workshop is jointly organised with the assistance
of Planning Institute, Australia and the Foundation for Development
Corporation, Australia, several experts from Sri Lanka and Australia are
scheduled to make presentations at this workshop.
The Institute expects to formulate a set of firm
recommendations on post-tsunami reconstruction and rehabilitation
programs.
The workshop will consist of three sessions and all
issues related to the coastal area redevelopment will be discussed. The
papers presented by many experts are on varied topics. These range from
issues related to urban planning to engineering investigations for
post-tsunami development.
The relevant issues will be looked at from many angles
including planning, environment, engineering and legal aspects. |
