Club owner slain at Slave Island

A PROMINENT liquor club owner was gunned down yesterday in broad
daylight opposite his home in Slave Island.
Police said T. Earnest Peris, a well known club owner in
the Slave Island area and one time member of the Colombo Municipal
Council was shot in the head by his assailant. He died on the spot.
Colombo Crime Division (CCD) headed by Director Senior
SP Sarath Lugoda yesterday took over investigations into the killing.
Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath directing investigations,
said the assailant had fired thrice at his victim before escaping with
his accomplices.
Acting on the directions of the Colombo DIG, Slave
Island police cordoned off the area immediately after the killing to
apprehend the killers.

Sarath C. Karunaratne who visited the scene with Colombo Central Senior
SP Lucky Dissanayake, ASP Champika Siriwardena and Chief Inspector J. M.
P. Jayalath, OIC. Slave Island, directed the body to be dispatched to
the Colombo National Hospital for a post-mortem examination by the
Colombo Judicial Medical Officer.
The Judge also directed the Police to arrest the
suspects and produce them before court. Preliminary investigations have
revealed that a rival underworld gang may have been involved in the
killing.
Police are investigating to ascertain whether this was a
contract killing or the work of an underworld gang. |
