Program to develop pottery villages

THE Small and Rural Industries Ministry has decided to set up eleven
pottery product manufacturing villages in the Kurunegala District as
part of the "Guru Pahayen Ran Pahayata," national programme to develop
1000 villages in the country.
Under this project, five pottery products manufacturing
villages have already been set up at Unaleeya, Singandaluwa,
Ihalapankolawewa, Rukmale and Kanumale in the Kurunegala District.
The Ministry has provided Rs. 13 million for the
Industrial Development Co-operatives which have been already set up in
the each industrial village.
Minister K.D. Lal Kantha said that the Ministry supports
directly to encourage the villagers and it has already provided
equipment for 100 villagers. "'The Industrial Development Board provides
the technology and consultation support," the Minister said.
The Minister said these sites are best for the pottery
industry and people have been engaged in the industry from the past by
supplying raw materials from their villages.
The Ministry has also conducted a seminar to train 250
selected pottery product manufacturers from each village. The seminar
focussed on enhancing the accuracy, precision and efficiency of
designing processes which save a considerable amount of time of
industrialists.
It also helpes to educate the villagers to improve
quality ,speed and flexibility to make them more competitive in the
international market. |
