"No such Bill has been presented to the Cabinet and not even a draft Bill of Water Management has been presented to the Cabinet," Minister Sirisena said in response to a statement made by Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) MP Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera. Making his statement, Ven. Rathana Thera urged the Government to reveal its stance over water resources to the Parliament. In his statement, Ven. Rathana Thera lamented that country is losing a golden opportunity to stand up as a one nation due to lack of proper leadership. "The tragedy caused by the tsunami created a golden opportunity for us to work together and build this country. But the Government has failed to make use of this opportunity to bring all the parties together to build one nation", the Thera added. Ven. Rathana Thera questioned as to what steps the Government had taken in respect of the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO). "Like the LTTE, TRO too had been banned in a number of countries. You must take an official decision on this particular organisation", the Thera added. The Thera also urged the Government not to allow the LTTE to engage in rehabilitation activities in the areas controlled by the Security Forces. Security Forces should handle all such work in the areas which are under their control", the Thera added. |
