It is the second consecutive year in which Millennium IT, Cisco's pioneer business partner in Sri Lanka, has won the Best Cisco Partner award.

Firefox blazes new path on Internet

The latest buzzword in the internet community is the newest entrant into the freeware browser arena Firefox. Created by Internet whiz kid Blake Ross Firefox and originally titled Phoenix, it is based on the open source code release of Mozilla. Ross' efforts towards creation of a lighter and faster browser witnessed the creation of Firebird which subsequently became Firefox.

Firefox feature eBay, Google, Dictionary.com, Amazon and Yahoo as default search engines and also contains Lonely Planet, Wikipedia and Amnesty International amongst other Firefox default bookmarks termed Firefox Crew Picks.

Given that Firefox utilized Mozilla code optimized for the fast retrieval of websites, users will find their internet experience quite expedient as opposed to the longer waits normally associated with other browser and especially more so when compared to the bulky Internet Explorer (IE).

Built to W3C standards and featuring optimized Mozilla code many users of the familiar Netscape browser will find Firefox quite pleasing indeed. Even IE users will find using Firefox quite easy too with only a few differences in terminology such as Internet Options being referred to as Options in Firefox. Temporary Internet Files as Cache, Favourites as Bookmarks, the Address Bar as the Location Bar, the Refresh button is labelled as Reload, the Links Bar as the Bookmarks Toolbar and the Copy Shortcut is referred to as Copy Link Location.

Firefox features tabbed browsing, a very good download manager and also a popup and popunder blocker a feature that many frequent surfers will find quite pleasing. Advanced users and web site designers will find Firefox's JavaScript console quite useful indeed.

Security and privacy is enabled with support for SSL (Secured Sockets Layer) 2.0 and SSL 3.0 along with (Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.0. Users can use the Cookie Manager in Firefox to view and manage cookies stored in their PC.

Users can also customize the level of control granted to JavaScript using the JavaScript Options dialog available under Advanced options from the Tools>Options>Web features menu.

Having tested Firefox on a variety of operating systems 1 find Firefox quite stable and relatively free from a lot of the annoying bugs and quick that plague many other established browsers, with the only drawback presently being the lack of W3C support on some of the key sites visited by me, however, this is not a flaw with Firefox as Microsoft is solely to blame for the incorporation of features that do not strictly adhere to W3C standards.
