US tourists love Lanka's cultural sites by Shirajiv Sirimane For the first time after the tsunami a 26 member group of tourists from United States arrived in Sri Lanka recently said that they enjoy visiting places of cultural value in Sri Lanka as much as they enjoyed its beaches. The group arrived here recently has been staying at Deer Park Hotel Polonnaruwa. According to the Tour leader of the Unique journeys Group based in Reno, Nevada, Suraj Zutshi these tourists were booked to visit Sri Lanka last August and they never changed plans after Tsunami. "We felt that we can help more by coming to Sri Lanka and we will promote more holidays to Sri Lanka. Many members of the group have toured India and Nepal in the past and they some how wanted to visit Sri Lanka since they have heard so much good about this destination," he said. There will be many American tourists and holidaymakers visiting this destination, as there is so much potential for tourists in this land. They do not have any plan to visit the beaches at present but they are so eager to visit the places which boast of rich cultural heritage and history. "Some people think that Sri Lanka is all about beaches. This is wrong and we now know that the tsunami has not damaged only a part of Sri Lanka and that area too has recovered," he said. The Group will also make a cash donation to the Lion Club Colombo East in Colombo tomorrow before departing. |
