Pathirana takes hat-trick as Trinity win by S.M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy Sports Corr. Fifteen-year-old left arm spinner Sachith Pathirana performed the hat-trick and also two wickets in the last over including a last ball wicket to inspire Trinity College to an innings and 133 runs win over the hitherto unbeaten Kegalu Vidyalaya in their Elephant Lemonade Trophy cricket tournament match concluded at the Asgiriya Stadium on Sunday. Due to soggy ground conditions the match got underway only at 12.30 p.m. Kegalu Vidyalaya chasing a total of 270 were shot out for 70. They were 63 for 3 at one stage but Sachith Pathirana in his tenth over captured 3 wickets in his last three balls to complete the hat-trick to finish with 4 for 22 while off spinner Charith Dumbarage took 3 for 3. Following on 195 runs behind Kegalu Vidyalaya were 51 for 5 at stage but a batting collapse saw them reeling at 62 for 8. Amila Jayasinghe playing the role of sheet anchor made 35 with one four facing 122 deliveries. Then came the dramatic last over of the day with the score reading 62 for 8. Sachith Pathirana bowling their over took a wicket with his second ball and got the final scalp in the last ball of the match tropping the last man in front with a straight delivery. Earlier skipper Maduranga Munaweera took 5 for 21. Sachith Pathirana took 3 for 13 to finish with match figures of 7 for 35. Trinity College - 270 for 5 decl. Kegalu Vidyalaya - 75 all out in 41.1 overs (M.A.A.M. Marasinghe 21, Sachith Pathirana 4 for 22, Charith Dumbarage 3 for 3) and 62 all out in 45 overs (J.A.A.G. Jayasinghe 35, Maduranga Munaweera 5 for 21, Charith Dumbarage 2 for 10, Sachith Pathirana 3 for 13). |
