Petersen meets Kadirgamar

Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen and his delegation met Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and officials to brief the Government on the Norwegian delegation's visit to Hambantota and Mullaitivu and their discussion with the LTTE leadership in Kilinochchi concerning the post-tsunami situation.

The focus of the discussion was on the post-tsunami humanitarian relief and rehabilitation efforts and on ways and means by which the Government and the LTTE can work together for this purpose, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Petersen said he had met LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and other LTTE personalities including Anton Balasingham and his wife, Soosai and Tamilchelvam. The Norwegian delegation included Norwegian Minister of International Development Hilde Johnson, Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgesen, Special Advisor Erik Solheim and Norway's Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hans Brattskar.
