Computers for Sasanarakshaka Balamandala

All Buddhist organizations known as 'Sasanarakshaka Balamandala' formed at the district level are to donate a personal computer system each by the Ministry of Buddahasana.

The Ministry has taken this initiative in an effort to assist these 'Balamandalas' to ease routine office work of them.

Later, the Ministry will expand this process up to the Divisional Secretariat level Balamandalas.

Minister Ratnasiri Wickrmanayake has proposed this initiative, it is further reported.


Kalutara Bodhi Trust to help refugees

Kalutara Bodhi Trust has contributed Rs. 10 lakhs and set up a fund for tsunami disaster victims. The devotees who are coming to worship at the Bodhi would be able to assist the fund with money as well as consumer goods. The Bodhi Trust has also taken under their care 8 persons who have faced the tsunami disaster.


English education centres in Sabaragamuwa

In order to enhance the knowledge of English and qualify them for entrance to universities to continue their higher studies, GCE educated O/L and A/L qualified students will be provided knowledge in English at Centres organised by the Sabaragamuwa Province Education Ministry.

The first such Training Centre was opened recently at Kegalle Walagamba Vidyalaya.

Training Centres for English education are opened in the Province on the initiative of its Chief Minister Maheepala Herath.


Rains damage reservoirs in uncleared areas

Maravettiyakulam, Settiyawelikulm and Eachchankulam reservoirs in the uncleared areas were damaged following heavy rains recently. Muttur Divisional Secretary K. Nadaraja said.

Several areas of paddy fields have been submerged and destroyed.

The submerged paddy fields were to be harvested while the recently harvested paddy was also destroyed by the floods.

Willakulam tank in Sampur is kept open because it is also nearing spill level. "Several areas have gone under water following this", he said.

About 500 families affected are now at Sampur and Kunnipeach government schools.
