by Asanga Warnakulasuriya Three suspects who had allegedly involved in smuggling heroin into Welikade prison premises were nabbed by Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) along with over 1kg of heroin worth Rs. 2.5 million. According to PNB Director SSP Pujith Jayasundara, the suspects had packed 1kg 52g of heroin in 7,000 packs and were planning to smuggle the packets to drug addicts in prisons. The suspects are said to be members of the Olcott's gang, the SSP told the Daily News. Two suspects were taken into custody from Borella while the packeting agent was arrested in Kadawatha. Meanwhile in a separate detection PNB nabbed a youth in Armour Street who had Rs.2.5 million worth of heroin in possession. The detection was a result of joint operation with BIA Anti-Narcotic Unit and PNB, the SSP said. Police investigations had revealed that suspect had being in business for 10 years. |
