Balasingham lauds forces' gallantry

by Ariyasena Manamendra

LTTE spokesman Anton Balasingham was full of appreciation for the spontaneous response of the security forces who came to rescue of victims of the tsunami devastation in the North and East.

Addressing local and foreign journalists at the Peace Secretariat in Killinochchi on Saturday, Balasingham said the LTTE would not in any way disrupt the Government's efforts to rebuild the shattered lives of the stricken victims of the tsunami in the North and East.

He noted that the North and East conflict and the tsunami disaster should not be mixed up but treated as two separate issues.

"It is the responsibility of the Government to ensure the international aid be equitable distributed among all those affected."

He added that the LTTE treated all inhabitants in the North and East be they Tamil, Sinhala or Muslim as one.

Balasingham also spoke of the urgent need for disbursing tsunami aid for rebuilding and reconstruction. He also spoke of the need to deal with the shortcomings of relief distribution in the North and East.
