North-East Governor Tyronne Fernando will preside at today's high level conference at the Vavuniya Secretariat to review the situation in the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts in the aftermath of the tsunami devastation. GAs of the two districts, Divisional Secretaries, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarians, senior Army officers and LTTE representatives have been invited to attend the conference. He is presiding at the conference in his capacity as head of the North-East Tsunami Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Committee. Secretary to the Governor S. Amirthalingam will also attend the conference. The Governor, on this first official visit after being appointed to the post, will also visit the Mannar refugees who fled their homes fearing tsunami disaster and now housed in a school in Vavuniya. Meanwhile, Vavuniya GA K. Ganesh has been transferred as GA for Jaffna and S. Shanmugam has been appointed in his place. |
