The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka, Lim Jae-hong on Friday delivered a cheque of US$ 200,000 contributed by the Korean Government to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, at the Presidential Secretariat. The Korean business community in Sri Lanka continues to offer additional relief programs. Kusang Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. a ski glove maker at Kandana, airlifted and delivered medicines from Korea worth Rs. 300,000 to the Prime Minister's office in addition to the relief materials and cash of US$ 10,000 on December 30, 2004. Young An Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. a cap and hat manufacturer at Malwana, in cooperation with the BOI, has decided to provide the displaced women with three factory buildings with 100,000 square feet and a capacity to accommodate 2,000 people to be used as a shelter for three months free of charge. The company will also distribute foodstuff worth Rs. 100,000 to the affected people. Poongkook Colombo (Pvt) Ltd. a bag manufacturer at Habarakanda will provide the affected people with bag materials to use as mats in addition to the cash of US$ 4,500 pledged on December 30, 2004. Elphis Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. a garment manufacturer located at Ekala has decided to establish an "Emergency Relief Team" in the company to offer relief kits worth US$ 50,000 to 500 affected persons from January 4, 2005 onwards. The team comprises staff members from the mother company as well as the local subsidiary. This is in addition to the US$ 90,000 pledged on December 29, 2004. |
