The Department of Registration of Persons has initiated a special program to provide National Identity Cards. Issuing a press release the Commissioner for the Registration of Persons P.B. Abeykoon said information regarding persons whose Identity Cards have been lost or disfigured and of those who have not obtained Identity Cards whose documents required for submitting applications for Identity Cards have been displaced will be issued with Identity Cards expeditiously. A special program in this regard which is being prepared would be announced shortly, he said. Those who lost their Identity Cards are advised to try and collect whatever information possible about the lost Identity Cards and to furnish this information to the police authorities and Grama Niladaris when required. It is also advised that information required for submitting applications for Identity Cards be ascertained from documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates etc. which have not been destroyed. |
