Rajik, said that the Government had despatched a substantial quantum of relief assistance to the districts affected by the tsunami national disaster. He refuted claims by certain sections of the local media that there was discrimination in providing relief to affected people in the Northern and Eastern districts. He released a district-wise list of food stocks and other items sent to Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Galle, Hambantota and Matara districts upto January 4 at a press briefing on Tuesday. According to the list 4,912.83 metric tonnes of rice, sugar, dhal and wheat flour have been sent to the six districts in the North Eastern province during the period as against 359.48 mt of the same items to the three Southern districts during the same period. A total of 574 mt of rice, 1879 mt of sugar, 300.60 mt of dhal and 172 mt of wheat flour have been sent to the pre-dominant Tamil districts of Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi respectively as per the list. A total of 1,740.25 mt of rice, 2,282.31 mt of sugar, 636.75 mt of dhal and 613 mt of wheat flour have been sent to all the Northeastern and Southern districts. These details are available at the district secretariats and the relief assistance was being distributed through the GAs. |
