The Norwegian and Swedish based international NGO FORUT is now preparing for the recovery work in the tsunami affected districts of Sri Lanka. FORUT Resident Representative Paul Henrik Kielland informs that the Organisation is planning an immediate rehabilitation package of 100 million Norwegian Kroner or 16 million US$. It will be financed through the support of the Swedish and Norwegian Governments and the people of Norway and Sweden. The package will include provision for 5,000 houses, 1,500 fishing boats including engines and nets, 100 child and youth centres including pre-schools, 50 mother and child centres, and furniture packages for 50 schools. Additional components such as support to local government services and a disaster management centre are also included in the plan. Kielland says that he is overwhelmed with the support given from abroad and that the Organisation is already heavily involved in the relief efforts. He points out the need to see beyond relief. |
