by Chamikara Weerasinghe Members of Sangha will walk the length and breadth of the Kandy city on foot on Saturday (8) with their alms-bowls to collect aid to help tsunami victims. The initiative is being undertaken with the blessings of the Mahanayaka Theras of Malwathu and Asgiriya chapters. This is the second such alms-aid collection by members of the Sangha in their bid to construct 10,000 houses for those who lost their homes in the catastrophe. Hundreds of bhikkhus are expected to join the alms-aid trek from morning till evening, according to sources at the Asapuwa. The Bhikkhus have established the Maha Karuna Foundation following the tsunami disaster to help the affected. They have opened an Account at the Sampath Bank, for this purpose. The Account Number is 107 060 000 017. All monetary contributions may be sent to this number at all Sampath Banks. Saturday's "alms pilgrimage" will take place with the participation of Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thera, Ven. Kolonnawe Sumangala Thera, Ven. Pitiduwe Siridhamma Thera and Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera. Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thera said that they would extend this "alms-pilgrimage" to every city, town and village out of compassion for all tsunami victims. "We plan to build 10,000 houses for victims in the Northeast, Jaffna and those affected in the coastal areas in the South," he said. |
