by Anjana Gamage Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has allocated four acres of land following an appeal made to him by a group of film artistes for a plot of land to build houses for the homeless tsunami victims. The land in Kirinda in the Hambantota district was released on the Premier's directions promptly following the meeting between the artistes and the Prime Minister on Monday. The artistes who met the Premier included leading film stars Malani Fonseka, Ravindra Randeniya, Anoja Weerasinghe, Sabitha Perera and Robin Fernando along with well-known philanthropist and Chairman of Nawaloka Group Jayantha Dharmadasa. They expressed their willingness to build 50 houses for the tsunami victims. Local film stars, singers and lyricists who are the members of Cinestar foundation and OSCA along with the Nawaloka Group of Companies headed by Jayantha Dharmadasa formed a new organisation titled " NAWACINEOSCA" and opened a tsunami victims fund with an initial contribution of Rs. 10 million, said T. M. Sangadasa, media spokesman for the organisation. According to him the joint effort by the three organisations will see the construction of 50 houses in Kirinda for the tsunami victims. Speaking to the artistes the Prime Minister narrated details of an incident he personally experienced while on an inspection of an affected area in Koralawella .According to the Premier a small boy who had lost both parents had come towards him and asked " what would happen to me?". He replied " Don't worry, we will initiate a special programme for all of you. Otherwise I will take you to temple trees". |
