British retailer provides assistance Next Plc, a leading British clothing retailer, has committed Rs. 50 million in aid to areas of Sri Lanka affected by the recent Tsunami. In addition, Next is hoping to raise a similar amount through voluntary donations from its employees, suppliers and friends around the world. In a letter to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse Chief Executive of Next Simon Wolfson has confirmed their commitment to help Sri Lanka in their efforts to rebuild the nation. In his letter to the Prime Minister Wolfson said: "Next PLC has had a long and successful history within the Sri Lankan garment manufacturing industry; we have direct employees of 2,300 within the island, and in addition we have involvement with the employment of over 30,000 people through our other suppliers. Sri Lanka continues to be a very important part of our supply chain. |
