SriLankan honours outstanding employees SriLankan Airlines recently honoured employees who made outstanding contributions towards making the national carrier a more efficient and dynamic airline by presenting them with "Achievers Awards" for the first time. K. Wijesiri, a Technician in the Equipment and Transport section of the Service Delivery Division, was chosen as Achiever of the Year, the most coveted award, which he received from Chief Executive Officer Peter Hill at a ceremony at the Colombo Plaza. The awards are to be held annually. First Runner-Up for Achiever of the Year was Christy Fernando, Properties Manager Projects and Planning at the Properties and Facilities Department, while the Second Runner-Up was Rajamanikkam Subachandran, an Engineering Services Engineer at the Engineering and Maintenance Division. Wijesiri won the title for his numerous inventions that have improved services in his department, in the Ramp area of the Bandaranaike International Airport. Senior Cargo Supervisor S.A. Dharmarathne was awarded the other coveted award of Best Idea of the Year. Gamini Weerasinghe was selected as Sportsperson of the Year, after representing SriLankan in several sports at the international, national and mercantile levels, including athletics, basketball and soccer, and winning three Gold medals and a Silver medal at the Masters Games in Canberra, Australia. The other nominees for Sportsperson of the Year were A.F. Sellar, Melanie Devadasan, and Benjamin Fernando. |
