NDB help for fishermen hit by tsunami disaster

The National Development Bank Group has set up a Trust Fund, to be used to repair damaged fishing boats, and to provide new ones, to enable fishermen to help rebuild their lost livelihoods and shattered lives.

NDB's General Manager, Nihal Welikala said, "NDB will provide Rs. 10 million towards this fund, and additionally hopes to collect donations from well-wishers who share our vision to build sustainable livelihoods for those fisherfolk who have lost everything.

The trust fund is appealing for donations from individuals or institutions, towards the project. All administrative costs will be borne by NDB. 100% of funds raised will therefore reach the fishermen. The fund will be audited by Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants. Donors will be kept apprised of progress via the website - http://relief.ndbbank.com

Donations to the NDB Fishermen's Relief Trust Fund can be made by logging on to www.ndbbank.com, and paying online through a secure payment gateway.

Payments can also be made in cash at any of the NDB Bank branches, or by bank drafts, cheque or telegraphic transfer made out to "NDB Fishermen's Relief Trust Fund" (Account No: 100 001 013056, SWIFT: NDBSLKLX). For more information, donors are requested to email the trust at [email protected] or call in on 011 4712732 or 011 2437701 ext. 470.
