The Sri Kalyani Rajamaha Vihara Dayaka Sabha on the advice of the Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, Ven. Dr. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkhita Nayaka Thera has decided to suspend the Kelaniya Duruthu Perahera scheduled to be held on January 2005 due to the national calamity faced by the country. However, in order to maintain the tradition, the perahera will be restricted to a day and will be held in the vicinity of the "Udamaluwa". Furthermore, the Dayaka Sabha has decided to allocate a sum of Rs. 3 mn to be disbursed appropriately to relieve the disaster stricken people of the South, North and the East. It was also decided not to request for any sponsorship for the forthcoming perahera and if any voluntarily contributions being received, it will be credited to the Relief Fund, states Jayaraja Chandrasekera, Jt. Secretary of the Sri Kalyani Rajamaha Vihara Dayaka Sabha in a press release. |
