Unilever Sri Lanka and all its employees have come forward to help those affected in Sunday's disaster. Using the company's extensive distribution network, relief supplies have already been distributed directly to people in affected areas of Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Ampara, Batticaloa, Vavuniya and Trincomalee districts. The relief packages contained essentials like drinking water, rice, sugar, Lipton tea, Sunlight soap, Signal toothpaste, Marmite, plastic buckets, towels, feeding cups, sleeping mats etc. The Chief Incumbent of Sri Pada, who called over at the National Disaster Management Committee donated Rs. 1.5 million to provide relief to victims of the tidal wave disaster of December 26. Geff Garment International Managing Director M. J. M. Althafi and Chief Accountant K. Mahalingam handed over materials to the value of Rs. 2.5 million visiting the centre for disaster management at the Prime Minister's Office. The operation committee established at the Prime Minister's Office has already despatched relief items such as dry rations, drugs, clothing, kitchen utensils and water tanks worth over Rs. 15 million for distribution in the affected areas. At the request of District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries these relief items were despatched from Colombo to Kilinochchi, Mullativu, Galle, Kalutara, Hikkaduwa, Ampara, Ambalangoda, Panadura, Balapitiya and Hambantota, Prime Minister's Additional Secretary Gamini Senarath said. |
