Presidential appointments for co-ordination of relief operations

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has appointed the following District Secretaries/Government Agents as Competent Authorities for the Administrative Districts specified below for the purpose of coordination of relief operations in the areas affected by the national disaster.

1. Mr. G.A.J. Sylvester, District Secretary/Government Agent, Colombo - for the Administrative District of Colombo, 2. Mr. V.K. Ruparatne, District Secretary/Government Agent, Gampaha - for the Administrative District of Gampaha, 3. Mr. J.R.W. Dissanayake, District Secretary/Government Agent, Kalutara - for the Administrative District of Kalutara, 4. Mr. G. Hewavitharana, District Secretary/Government Agent, Galle - for the Administrative District of Galle, 5. Mr. H.G.S. Jayasekera, District Secretary/Government Agent, Matara - for the Administrative District of Matara, 6. Mr. M.A. Piyasena, District Secretary/Government Agent, Hambantota - for the Administrative District of Hambantota, 7. Mr. C. Pathmanadan, Government Agent, Jaffna - for the Administrative District of Jaffna, 8. Mr. J. Rasanayagam, Government Agent, Kilinochchi - for the Administrative District of Kilinochchi, 9. Mrs. Imelda Sukumar, Government Agent, Mullaitivu - for the Administrative District of Mullaitivu, 10. Mr. V. Shanmugam, Government Agent, Batticaloa - for the Administrative District of Batticaloa, 11. Mr. H.M. Herath Abeyweera, Government Agent, Ampara - for the Administrative District of Ampara, 12. Mr. M.D.A.G. Rodrigo, Government Agent, Trincomalee - for the Administrative District of Trincomalee, 13. Mr. H.M. Herath, District Secretary/Government Agent, Puttalam - for the Administrative District of Puttalam.

The Competent Authorities will be assisted by a Committee consisting of a senior member of three Armed Forces, the Police Department and the representatives from the civil society in the coordination of all relief work, states a press release issued by the Presidential Media Unit.
