Prime Minister appeals to stop functions and donate funds for relief work

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has appealed to all organisers to stop all functions scheduled forthwith in respect of the present disaster befallen on the people of this country.

In a statement to the media the Premier said that we need to be conscious and mindful of the calamity fallen on a section of our people and should put our resources together to help them in their hour of need.

He also said it is not courteous on our part and morally right to think of organising tamashas and enjoy ourselves when a section of our people mourn their dead and suffer the destruction caused to them and their properties. "I appeal the organisers to donate the monies allocated for tamashas and other social functions and call upon the countrymen to share the grief of those suffered disaster",the statement added.
