by Nadira Gunatilleke The Treasury has provided Rs. 100 million to the Department of Social Services to provide relief for the Tidal wave victims, said the Director, Social Services, Ms. Yamuna Chithrangani. She said that arrangements have already been made to release funds for the District Secretaries of the affected districts. Rs. 1.5 million will be released for the Colombo District Secretary while another Rs. 1.5 million will be released for the Gampaha District Secretary. Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Minister Sumedha G. Jayasena has requested all District Secretaries to buy goods from any suitable institution and provide cooked meals for victims as soon as possible. About 1000 tents have already been distributed among victims. Arrangements were also made to send 20000 loaves of bread to the Trincomalee district yesterday morning (27). C. C. F. Lanka, an NGO has donated Rs. 5 million worth milk powder, bed sheets and other children's needs responding to a request made by Minister Jayasena to the NGOs. The Women's Empowerment and Social Welfare Ministry requests the public to hand over all donations to the Department of Social Welfare, 150 A, L.H.P. Building, Narahenpita.
