An Emergency Coordinating Unit has been established at the President's Office to expedite relief operations and assist victims of Sunday's tidal waves. This unit will also collate and make available information about those affected, the Office of the President said yesterday. The Unit can be contacted on 011-2435082, 011-4733531, 011-2437362 and 011-4733427. W.J.S. Karunaratne, Secretary to the President chaired a meeting yesterday morning attended by all Ministry Secretaries, Heads of the Armed Services, and the Inspector General of Police and senior state officials to discuss emergency measures. The focus was on the provision of basic amenities such as food and medicine, to retrieve the abandoned and assist in funeral arrangements. |
