Suspected rebels kill six ahead of Indian PM's Kashmir visit SRINAGAR, India, Tuesday (AFP) Suspected Muslim rebels shot dead six people in Kashmir in a single attack a day ahead of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the restive region, police said Tuesday. The killings late Monday night were reported from the central Kashmir district of Budgam, a police spokesman said. He said suspected rebels barged into a residential house and tried to abduct two gunmen belonging to a pro-government counter-insurgent group, the Ikhwan, founded by former Muslim fighters. In the struggle, "the militants opened fire killing both the Ikhwanis and four others, including two ladies," he said. The killings come ahead of the Indian prime minister's tour on Wednesday and Thursday, his first visit to Kashmir since the Congress-led alliance won elections in May this year. |
